5 Things to Stop Doing Right Now to be Successful at Anything
I know that we all have mindset issues that come up from time to time some more often than others. I know that I deal with it daily, so I'm sure that you do too, and if you do, you are not alone.
But today, I really want to talk about five things we need to stop doing if we want to be successful and the reason I say why, is because I also suffer from this as much as you do. I think sometimes when we see other people that are doing things that we want to be doing or are doing things bigger than we're doing them, we think, they don't have the same mindset issues that we do, and that's absolutely not true.
They do, and they just do it anyway, right? They still have those mindset and issues but they have tools and they have tips, and they have ways that they overcome them to kind of push through those blocks. So, today I want to talk about these five things that I found that are the things that hold me. From certain things when I really want to be successful in doing them. And this can be anything, this can be business, this can be parenting, this can be health or weight loss. These are all things that apply across the board. So even if you're not a business owner or an entrepreneur, these are definitely things that are keeping you stuck and, and not successful in the areas that you want to be successful in.
So let's get right into it.
The first thing is no excuses. Now I don't mean this in a way, that is very masculine and no excuses and hustle all the time and stuff like that. I don't mean it like that. I mean, of course, there are times when rest is important and hustle's important, but when I say no excuses, I mean, don't listen to those excuses in your mind that come up just to get you out of something that you don't wanna do.
For example, let's say you need to write that Instagram caption. You just don't want to say, "I'm going to write it tomorrow. My right typing hand isn't on point today. So, I'm just going to wait and do it tomorrow". We don't need to make excuses for not getting it done.
We need to just push through and get it done. So don't let excuses stop you from getting done what you need to get done. Okay.
The second thing is no negotiating with yourself. That means, if you have something that you need to get done, don't negotiate away from it. Okay? Or say, you're on a weight loss journey and you're like, “Oh, I worked out today, so since I worked out today, I should be allowed to have that extra cookie.”
It's like, No, don't negotiate with yourself. You're going further away from your goals when you do that. Don't, don't waste time and mental energy negotiating something when you could just do it or not do it in that case.
The third thing, and this is big stop comparing yourselves to others.
Not only is this like such a waste of time, it is such a waste of energy. You are not comparing apples to apples when you compare yourself to someone else. You are comparing apples to oranges because they are only showing you. The highlight reel and even, the new trend of showing, not the highlight reel, that's still. Probably not that real, right? So you're comparing apples to oranges when you compare yourself to someone else.
And I can say I have seen this firsthand. I know a lot of people that are big people on Instagram that have a lot of followers. And I can tell you firsthand the way that not the truth is manipulated. That sounds misleading. And, and these people, Honest, good people. I don't mean it like that, but I will know the actual situation and then I will see it on Instagram and I'm like, Oh my gosh.
If I didn't know what happened in the actual situation, I would be like comparing myself to them being like, “Oh my gosh, they're so great. They're so lucky.” But I knew the way it actually went down because I was there and I was like, “Oh yeah, this is the way it happened.” So you can see, even me being in the presence of people while they were posting, these highlight reels on Instagram.
What's such a good way to see that? How it can be so misleading to compare yourself to others, right? Like you are not comparing yourself to their real life to what's actually happening, we need to stop doing that. It is such a waste of time and energy to compare yourself to someone else.
Now, in that same vein, in that same vein, number four is don't look to others, your competitors for inspiration. Right? Because a lot of times what happens is I see people look to competitors. They look to other people in their niche serving the same group of people doing the same or similar things, and they just try to mimic what that person's doing, right?
So, what ultimately ends up happening is they just look like a knockoff. Why? Because it's not them. It's not you, right? If you're trying to do what someone else is doing, it's not you. I have totally been there. I've been like, I, want to do it like this person, and then I go and try to do it, and it's a total flop.
So it's like a waste of time and money and energy, because it's not me. I need to just do me. I don't know who that is. I don't know what that is. Everything about you that you may think is just basic to you is unique. Think about it, when you take a photo and you post a photo on Instagram, how do you like it to look?
Do you like it to look more dark and moody? Do you like it to have pink tones? Those little things, those preferences that you have. That's you, that becomes identifiable to you and your brand. When you're someone that posts really bright images and then all of a sudden you see a competitor do a dark and moody, black and white, and you're like, “Oh yeah, I'm going to do that.”
People can spot that, right? They also know like, “Oh, I just saw this on someone else's feed”, you know? And it looks very similar, why are they trying to do it like that? Like just do you, I know it's hard, but if you want to look for inspiration, I'm going to give you some and I swear. This is the part how I grew my law firm to six figures in less than one year, was that I looked for inspiration outside of other.
Attorneys, Right. So I wasn't looking to other attorneys for entrepreneurs for inspiration and how to grow my business. No, I was looking at the coaching industry. I was looking at real estate and how they were marketing and what they were doing. I was looking at, interior designers, home designers. I was looking for inspiration other places and not just in inspiration, meaning, oh, that's a pretty item now I, inspire.
Inspired to write an Instagram post? No. It was like in a way of looking at their business, Okay, what are they doing on Instagram or what are they doing on social media? Or what are they putting out on LinkedIn that is making them stand out from others? And then I would apply that to my business, right?
Like the way that I promote my legal offers. I took that. Or adapted that, I shouldn't say took it, adapted that from stuff I saw that worked in the coaching industry for some of these coaches. Right. There's definitely something in your business. That can be inspired, shaped, and changed and modified, and made better, and made custom to you and your business that no one else is doing.
Why? Because you found that inspiration from somewhere else, so. So stop looking to your competitors. Look other places for that inspiration of how to do things differently and really stand out.
And lastly, stop being so hard on yourself. If you wanna be successful, you need to stop being the one that tears yourself down, right? It's really hard to be successful and lead others and be a thought leader, and be innovative. And be creative when you're always beating yourself. Okay. If you put out a, a Instagram post and it flops, you get nine likes and no comments. I've been there and you say, Oh, that was the worst post ever. I am so bad at Instagram.
I, my writing is terrible. No one wants to work with me. Why? Why am I even bothering? That is not going to make you successful, and I realize that it's hard. I realize that getting nine likes and then going back again day after day and doing it is exhausting and can make you feel. Not great about yourself, but you know what?
That consistency builds momentum, and momentum builds success. So in anything you do, you cannot be the one that puts yourself out of business. You cannot be the one that puts yourself, to stop working out. You can't be that person. There are plenty of people out there that are judgy and mean and rude and will do that for you, and we're going to block them out.
But you cannot be that person to yourself. There is no benefit in that, and that is not a successful mindset. So next time you hear that little voice in your head that's saying, Oh, only nine people. Saw my post, liked my post. Well, you know what? I'll give you a million other reasons of why it was only nine people.
The algorithm didn't show it to people. You posted at a time that wasn't great. So not a lot of people saw it. Many people actually saw it, but they scrolled the tappings out. They don't wanna tap, give you the like. There are hundred reasons of why that have nothing to do with your worth as an entrepreneur or as a person as to why.
You didn't get likes. You're just giving it that identity, and we're going to stop doing that. We're going to stop being so hard on ourselves.
So let me go over the five things you're going to stop doing. If you wanna be successful in anything you do, you're going to stop with the excuses. Stop negotiating with yourself. No more comparison. We're going to look outside our industry for inspiration, and we're going to stop being so hard on ourselves.
So I hope this helps. I hope you can take this and apply it to your business. Apply it to your life right now. Don't stop. You are worthy. You deserve to be successful. You deserve to have everything that you want in life.
